Patients and Visitors

The Division of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Ottawa Hospital specializes in care of the Musculoskeletal System.  Our surgeons take great pride in offering our patients world class care. Read patient testimonials below.

“Not once during my time at the Ottawa General Hospital did I ever feel I was being neglected or forgotten. I felt like I was being cared for by family, not strangers. The entire staff is to be commended and I thank them all for their care and attention. Words cannot convey my gratitude. ”

K.J.The Ottawa Hospital, 2019

“The surgery went extremely well, the Surgeon was fantastic and all the Hospital Staff were expertly helpful and courteous. I am on my way to recovery and I thank everyone for your help. ”

A.S.The Ottawa Hospital, 2019

“I was very nervous and fearful about this surgery. Dr. Stratton put my wife and I totally at ease and gave us a high level of confidence going into the surgery. I would recommend her in a heartbeat to anyone who is in a similar situation as I was in. You should be very proud of her. You are lucky to have her on your staff.”

B.D. and S.D. after S.D. underwent successful Spine Surgery by Dr StrattonThe Ottawa Hospital, 2019

“Dr. Abdelbary and Dr. Meghan, his resident, and the entire surgical/anesthetic team responded to my health situation with clinical mastery that I did not know was even possible. The care was delivered with skill, gifted communication, compassion and inspiring excellence. Thank you for all the wonderful care I received. And I’m happy to report that while I may never get through an airport metal detector quite the same way, I am well on the road to recovery.

Thank you.”

Our Values

Patient Care: We will deliver compassionate and patient-centered quality care that meets both the physical and emotional needs of our patients.

Education & Professional Development: We will inspire and direct the training of current and future practitioners providing musculoskeletal care – as future ethical, patient-centered physicians, surgeons and colleagues.  We will play an active role in the promotion of musculoskeletal health and the prevention of injuries in the community.

Research: We will research and establish best evidence-based practices in providing comprehensive treatment of musculoskeletal conditions from childhood through adulthood.

Culture and work environment: We will provide and sustain a positive working environment that encourages respect, teamwork, quality and growth.

Referrals / New Patients:

Patients that want to be seen by a physician from the Division of Orthopedic Surgery must have a referral from a primary care physician or specialist. These referrals can be sent directly to the office of each individual surgeon.

We recognize that access to orthopedic care can be difficult due to extended wait times for some orthopedic subspecialties. We prioritize each consult based on medical urgency.

Regional Hip and Knee Replacement Program:

All referrals for patients who are potential candidates for primary total hip or total knee replacement must be sent to the regional central intake centre (CIC). Referrals sent to surgeons’ offices will be redirected to the CIC and the CIC will ask you to complete a new referral form. This process could take several months, so it would be best for your patient that you complete the approved referral form and fax directly to the CIC. For more information on referring patients to the CIC please visit the Champlain LHIN’s website.

For follow up visits, patients should be given their next appointment date and time before they leave the hospital or outpatient clinic. If you did not receive your appointment at that time, you must call the appropriate clinic directly to schedule this. The clinic information for both campuses is below.
